The SMI LIMA BOX is a training model to aid both surgeons and bedside assists with the physical steps of taking down the Left internal mammary/thoracic artery for robotic assisted coronary artery bypass surgery (RASTCAB or Midcab). This model allows for the physical manipulation of the artery, for surgeons to practice placing clips on the branches of the artery and cutting those branches. Once the progression of the takedown is nearing completion, this model also allows for left (third arm) instrument exchanges for clipping and cutting at the bifurcation.
For bedside assistants: the model can be quickly/easily exchanged for repeatability during training exercises. This also allows for bedside assists to gain hand eye coordination, practice instrument exchanges, and development skills needed to perform the procedure effectively.
